Write for us

Coastal News Compass welcomes considered pitches about shorelines, coastal landforms, tides, and the built forms beside the sea. Contributions should help a general reader notice or understand something specific.

What to pitch

We are interested in clear explainers, thoughtful comparisons, concise accounts of how coastal forms came to be, and close-reading pieces about features readers may encounter at the shore. A strong proposal has a distinct question, a well-defined subject, and a reason the explanation will remain useful beyond a passing news moment.

What makes a strong proposal

Tell us the working title, central idea, likely reader, and the main points the piece would explain. Note any sources or specialist material you expect to consult, and disclose relevant interests. Keep the proposal focused: one sharp subject is more useful than a broad survey of everything along a coast.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A pitch is not a guarantee of publication. Please submit original work, identify material that needs attribution, and do not include confidential information or claims that cannot be responsibly supported.
